GPs with Specific Interests in Sports Medicine Are Trained To:

  • Accurately diagnose an injury
  • Consider any other underlying health issues that may be contributing to an injury
  • Devise a comprehensive management plan (which may involve other health professionals such as Orthopaedic Surgeons, PhysiotherapistsPodiatristsMyotherapists or Exercise Physiologists)
  • Work closely with you to assist with future injury prevention.
  • Refer for Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections. Whilst cortisone and Visco supplementation injections to some injured areas may be performed by a Sports Medicine Doctor, they may otherwise require a referral to be carried out under imaging as they may require more specific targeting of the area.

On-site Radiology and Pathology services enable your Sports Doctors to order any special investigations necessary. These tests may enable a more specific and accurate diagnosis to be made.

We have on-site Allied Health Practitioners and a Specialist Centre which provide ready access to a wide range of other Professionals to aid in your return to optimal health.

GPs with Specific Interests in Sports Medicine Appointments

When booking an appointment to see a Sports Doctors please allow 30 minutes for new injuries. This allows time for an adequate history to be taken, examination to be performed and the road to recovery to be outlined.

Whilst not essential, it is also preferable to continue to see the same Sports Doctors or Sports Physician throughout the management of a particular injury. This provides continuity of your care and helps avoid duplication of investigations or management strategies.

A referral is not required to see the Sports Doctors as they are also General Practitioners.

To arrange an appointment to see one of our Sports Doctors please phone (03) 9650 9372 or book here.
