VALD Performance Equipment

At Healthcare on Collins, we utilise several VALD Performance System tools to assist in the understanding of strength, movement strategies, injury risk and performance. The data provided from these instruments can help to detect deficits and imbalance that are not readily detectable in the clinical setting and so provide a much more structured and objective approach to our testing and rehabilitation programs.

The VALD performance system can assess every step of your journey and aid your therapist in focusing on specific areas.

The many advantages of the VALD System include:

  • During the initial musculoskeletal assessment we can see patients’ baseline scores in any deficient areas
  • We can target the treatment and exercises to particular areas
  • For the client at home we can prescribe a really specific and efficient exercise program which is so essential for your total rehabilitation
  • Reassessment and review of progress gives both patient and therapist a true indication of the gains being made
  • Each step is recorded and analysed in real time so that the patient can view their performance on screen as they exercise

At Healthcare on Collins we use three components of the VALD performance systems:

  • The NordBord Hamstring Testing System
  • The ForceDecks
  • The ForceFrame

NordBord Hamstring Testing System

The NordBord is a fast and easy way to objectively measure eccentric and isometric hamstring strength.

Stronger hamstrings are associated with a reduced risk of injury and we use the Norbord to not only assess hamstring strength, but also as a strengthening tool.

The NordBord is particularly useful following ACL surgery when the hamstring is used for the graft. We use it to test the relative hamstring strength when compared to the other side (or the donor hamstring if assessed before the surgery). The thorough monitoring and strengthening of the hamstring helps to improve post-surgery knee functional stability and helps to protect against subsequent hamstring injury.

The therapist and the patient view the exercise performance as it happens and get a digital readout on the iPad. Such a powerful tool in rehabilitation!

The ForceDeck

The ForceDeck Dual Force Plate System provides an accurate and reproducible reading of how well your weight, force or power are distributed when you are when performing various activities such as standing, squatting or landing from a jump or a hop. This system can be used for any lower limb rehabilitation program, for example, ankle sprains, calf injuries and any lower limb surgery involving the ankle, knee or hip.

The ForceFrame Strength Testing System

The ForceFrame is a quick and straightforward way of testing the strength of muscles in the upper and lower body, including the hip, knee, shoulder and ankle. This helps to accurately identify strengths and weaknesses in different muscle groups, which can then guide the therapist in focusing on areas for rehabilitation and strengthening programs as well as quantifying progress over time.

The ultimate advantage of the whole VALD System is that the patient gets real-time digital feedback on where they are on the day. They can then compare it to where they were yesterday and set goals for where they want to be tomorrow.

If you are recovering from surgery or have surgery planned, or simply have that niggling injury which won’t go away then book in today to see one of our therapists. They with use the VALD Testing equipment to assess your baseline measures and help you to set your rehabilitation goals.
