Needle Phobia

Are you feeling anxious and apprehensive about upcoming pathology test, immunisations, or injections? It is understandable if you are. In these days of multi dose vaccines such as those for Covid, we at Healthcare on Collins have seen many people of all ages experience needle phobias. This may cause them to delay important medical tests and treatments. However, we can help you.

We are strong advocate of keeping your immunisations up-to-date and not delay your health care. This is why we take issues like needle phobia very seriously and have developed techniques to overcome them.

Nurse Mary Anne has been part of the team for over 10 years now. She has successfully coached many patients through their anxiety. Mary-Anne uses a structured therapy based on mindfulness to help patients overcome their fear of needles. One of Mary-Anne’s techniques is to help patients associate needles with sensations that aren’t fear-inducing.

Needle phobia, while not common in adults at around 10%, is much more prevalent among children at around 30% – 60%. Be assured that Mary-Anne and her team of nurses as well as the Practitioners, who may be involved in you or your family’s care, are all very understanding of this and will do their utmost to ease your concerns.

If you are interested in getting help from Mary-Anne prior to any test or treatment, all you need to do is call our friendly reception team on (03) 9650 4284 to schedule an appointment. At Healthcare on Collins, we understand how important it is to receive the necessary medical care and we’re here to support you every step of the way. Don’t let needle phobia prevent you or those you care for from getting the care you all may need. Contact us today and take the first step towards overcoming your anxiety.
