NordBord
What is a NordBord?
The NordBord is equipment that is used to assess hamstring strength.
At Healthcare on Collins, your physiotherapist will use a NordBord to accurately measure the amount of force produced by your hamstring when performing the nordic hamstring curl.
The NordBord can determine whether there is a disparity in the strength between both of your limbs and whether the total amount of force produced by your hamstrings is adequate for your age and/or sports performance goals.
What Situations Would the NordBord be Used For?
Your physiotherapist might also recommend using a NordBord if they suspect hamstring strength is a contributing factor to an injury sustained during running or high-intensity sports, especially sports that involve regular bending (such as tennis).
How Does This Provide an Advantage to Physio Patients?
Getting real-time feedback on strength and range of motion is a great motivator to inspire people to keep up with their treatment plans and help them return to the sports and activities they love as soon as possible.
How Does the NordBord Work?
Once in place, you’ll be instructed to perform nordic hamstring curls, while the NordBord precisely measures the force transmitted through each cuff.
This data allows your physiotherapist to assess your hamstring strength quickly and effectively, enabling tailored interventions to optimise your performance and reduce injury risk.
What Data Does the NordBord Produce?
It compares the strength of each hamstring, uncovering any potential imbalances that may predispose you to injury or affect your athletic performance.
Additionally, your physiotherapist may utilise the data to analyse muscle fatigue patterns, identifying any signs of early fatigue that could impact your training or rehabilitation progress
What If One Hamstring is Stronger than the Other?
Devices such as the NordBord allow your clinician to create the most suitable timeline for recovery as it provides more information than clinical observation.
For example, there can be a 25-30% difference between an injured versus non-injured hamstring which could risk further injury if not detected.
How is the Discrepancy in Hamstring Strength Rectified?
In other cases, your physiotherapist might give you some focused eccentric hamstring exercises to narrow the strength discrepancy between your limbs.
